Head Hobbyist's Note

What makes you happy? I would be willing to bet that whatever it is, for most people, their answer is not what they do for a living.
I wear many hats in life, most of us do. I am a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister, and a friend among other things. Professionally, I work in Audience Development for a local media company. This leads to my next thought...

Why is it that so often we define ourselves by our occupation? Some people love what they do, and their work brings them immense joy. However, for many of us, finding our true calling hasn't been a straightforward path. Take me, for example.

I went from high school to college to cosmetology school, and then back to college. Even when I returned to college, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. I ended up with a marketing degree and a good job, but does it bring me joy?

Art is my passion. This is something I found out about myself at a very young age. I am most content and peaceful when I am creating something. Somehow, amidst all the responsibilities and hats I wear, my passion for art got pushed aside. It took a while, but recently, I started working on art projects for myself and my loved ones. And you know what? It felt like a spark had reignited within me.

This led me to a life-changing realization. I may not have had all the answers at age 18, but that doesn't mean I can't pursue what makes me happy now. How powerful is that?

I opened The Hobbyists Hideout in August of 2023. Since that time, I have immersed myself in my newfound entrepreneurial role. My business and I have evolved significantly and I have so many exciting things in store for 2024.

If this resonated with you, or even if it didn’t - but you have a love for arts and crafts, I hope you'll still find value in joining me on this creative journey! Let's rediscover the parts of ourselves that we may have let go of—the parts that have the potential to bring us the most happiness.
